    Robert Harris serves as the Executive Vice President of Business Development at JH Kelly, a leading MEP and specialty industrial contractor in the Pacific Northwest. Situated in Longview, Washington, the company boasts over 1,200 employees and consistently achieves annual revenues surpassing $500 million. With a prosperous career spanning over 35 years in the construction industry, he brings a wealth of experience and a customer-oriented approach to JH Kelly, leading a team of 12 professionals in sales, marketing, and business development.

     

    The Journey from Canada to the Pacific Northwest

    Born in 1966 in Toronto, Canada, he relocated to the United States in 1975 due to his father's engineering career with Wright Schuchart Engineering in Seattle, Washington. His father's influence sparked his interest in construction and engineering, laying the foundation for his future career.

     

    On the Ice from an Early Age

    From childhood, he was actively involved in hockey, playing in various leagues, including the United States Hockey League and Junior A, and for a time, at Iowa State University. Although his tenure at Iowa State was short-lived, his passion for sports has remained constant. He later completed his education at Seattle University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and Humanities.

     

    From University to His First Job

    After college, he started his career as an auditor for a pension fund, a job that was pivotal not just professionally but personally as well, as it was there that he met his wife, Marnie. He eventually shifted to his true calling in construction, securing a position as a project engineer with Sverdrup Engineering. He played a crucial role in expanding Concourse D at SeaTac airport.

     

    His Career Path with JH Kelly

    His career at JH Kelly began as a field engineer in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he worked on projects that included rebuilding a compressor station and constructing a sulfur recovery unit. His journey through the ranks of JH Kelly was marked by significant achievements and promotions, leading him back to Washington, where he took on roles that capitalized on his skills in business development.

     

    In 1999, he briefly left JH Kelly to lead a service contractor team in San Diego, enhancing his expertise in managing large sales teams. After four years, he returned to JH Kelly, reinvigorated and ready to contribute to the company's growth as Vice President.

    In 2018, following the acquisition of Portland Mechanical Contractors, he was selected to lead the integration of this new entity into JH Kelly. His leadership facilitated the company's seamless integration and fostered growth in its service business.

     

    The Personal Side of Robert Harris

    He is a devoted family man, married for 33 years, and a father to three children. He enjoys traveling with his wife and exploring new countries and cultures. Their travels have taken them to various destinations, enriching their lives with new experiences and perspectives. An avid sports enthusiast, he has played hockey for over 50 years and continues to participate in a senior league.

     

    His commitment to the community is evident through his service on the Cowlitz Economic Development Council and his past involvement with several other regional boards. His contributions to his professional field and community reflect a deep commitment to positively impacting wherever possible.
